Smallpond was recorded in March and April of 1990 at (what was then) The Zoo, later Bogies, later something else, and Doug Carnie and myself
asked the bands we knew if they'd be interested in doing a compilation and everyone said yes and (I believe) the first Boise comilation was born. If I'm
talking out of turn about that please correct me. I'm pretty sure it was the first local release to be issued on cd. When we first released the
cassettes it was pretty popular and sold fairly well, so well in fact that we decided pressing the cd's would be a good idea. Pressng cd's was a much
more expensive process than it is now and we took everything we had and pressed the cd's. By the time the cd's came out everyone had a cassette
or had heard it and interest in the cd was virtually nill. wah wah waaaaaahhhhhh.... It was still a great project and takes a picture of what was
going on at the time. Some noted omissions; Treepeople, they were in Seattle at the time but they were still kind of a Boise band; Hi Tops, they were
a hugely popular band that would have been a great addition to this disc. I won't list every single band member on the sidebar but if you click on
the cd tray card you'll
be able to see who was involved. Click here to check out some press clippings

Christian Koppenhafer from Blind Lemons is still active in a couple bands
Five Speed Jesus alumni were in bands like Splinter, Dirtboy and Built to Spill
Psychick Knot members were in dozens of bands over the years and Erik Payne is well known for his tatoo artistry
Not sure what's up with the Screws, I heard they were going to reform recently (2007 or so). Tim Willis has drummed or played guitar or sang for many bands since 1990, notable Felt Neighbor and Gusto
Mercury were the most amazing band because they would play music so complex and difficult it would spin your head around, and then they would all switch instruments and blow your mind again.
I never saw a band where every guy was amazing on every instrument in the band. They moved to Austin shortly after '90, not sure what happened to them after that
